Introduction & Brief History of the Institution
Federal Government Postgraduate College H-8, Islamabad is located in sector H-8, the college was established in1969 to facilitate initially, the need for higher secondary
education in the capital city of Islamabad. Later o, quick growth of population in Islamabad made its up gradation indispensable,
and in 1972 degree classes in humanities and science were added to already existing courses.
To accommodate the growing number of students and to set up laboratories and other facilities
worthy of a higher education institutions, in 1980 the college was shifted to
the present campus which is spread over a vast area of land that houses adequate number of spacious class rooms, laboratories,
libraries, offices, corridors, auditorium and outdoor games and sports facilities.
In 1984 the college was further upgraded to the level of postgraduate institution and Master
Degree course was started in English Literature. The existing postgraduate block was completed in 1989. The Geography department
has recently been elevated to postgraduate level through vide letter No.D.637/AF dated 15th April, 2004 by the
University of Punjab, and the Master Degree classes in Geography has been started with a strength of 25 students.
The college showed general improvement in the Board/university examinations corresponding
to the facilities available to the institution in different years. It has been very heartening to see quite many students
from the institution finding places in medical colleges and engineering universities armed forces and different administrative
services of Pakistan.
